How to Designate or Change an Account Beneficiary in Schwab Alliance

Log in to your account using this link.

In the upper right-hand corner, click the person icon / “Profile” link. Then, from the drop-down menu that appears, select “Beneficiaries.”

From the “Beneficiaries” tab, click the “Edit Account” button under the account for which you need to make a beneficiary change.

Note: If you have multiple accounts, just select the “Edit Account” button beneath the account for which you want to update beneficiaries. Unfortunately, you cannot apply beneficiary changes simultaneously across multiple accounts. You must assign each beneficiary individually to each account.

You will first be taken to the “Primary Beneficiaries” screen for your account. Click edit to update or change the details for an existing primary beneficiary (a pop-up box will allow you to change name, SSN, relationship, address, and contact information). Click remove to delete an existing beneficiary.

You can also select “Create a New Beneficiary” at the bottom of the screen to add a new beneficiary to the account.

Once you are done updating the primary beneficiaries, click “Continue” to advance to the Contingent Beneficiaries section.

Note: you need to do this even if you have no changes to make to the contingent beneficiaries, so that you can click through to section 4. “Review and Consent” in order to finalize the changes you made to the primary beneficiaries.

Make whatever changes/designations are necessary to the Contingent Beneficiaries page. Use the “Back” button to go back to the Primary Beneficiaries screen and the Continue button to move forward.

In section “3. Additional Options,” you can designate the children of your beneficiaries as inheritors in case your beneficiaries pass away before you do. Make the selections and click “Continue.”

In section “4. Review and Consent,” you must click the check box next to. “I Agree,” and then hit the “Submit” button in order for your changes to be saved and applied to your account(s).
